Keio University and the Royal University of Bhutan (RUB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding during the SOI Asia 30th Anniversary Conference in Bandung, Indonesia. The agreement was signed by Dasho Chewang Rinzin, Vice Chancellor of RUB, and Professor Kohei Itoh, President of Keio University, establishing a new partnership between RUB and the SOI Asia community.

The agreement marked SOI Asia’s first new institutional partnership formalized through an MoU in 16 years, following the agreement with the National University of Timor-Leste (UNTL) in 2010.

The Royal University of Bhutan is Bhutan’s national university, bringing together colleges and academic institutions across the country. Through the new partnership, RUB will join SOI Asia’s regional network and explore opportunities for collaboration in education, research, capacity building, and student and faculty engagement.

The partnership also strengthens SOI Asia’s presence in South Asia, complementing existing relationships with institutions in Bangladesh and Nepal and creating new opportunities for collaboration across the subregion.

For SOI Asia, new partnerships are not simply about expanding the network. They create opportunities to connect people, share knowledge and experience, and develop activities that respond to the needs and priorities of participating institutions and their communities.

Signed as SOI Asia marked its 30th anniversary, the agreement with RUB also represents a new step forward as the community looks towards its next chapter of collaboration across the Asia Pacific.
