SOI Asia Engages with the Regional Internet Community at APNIC 62

SOI Asia participated in APNIC 62 and related meetings held in Mumbai, India, from 4 to 10 September 2026, continuing its engagement with partners and the wider Internet community across the Asia Pacific.

The SOI Asia delegation was represented by Achmad Husni Thamrin from Keio University and Marcos Sadao Maekawa from the APNIC Foundation. They joined discussions and exchanges with Internet engineers, researchers, operators, and other community members on topics including trust, AI in Internet operations, DNS abuse, Internet policy, and emerging operational challenges.

APNIC conferences bring together the regional Internet community for technical learning, policy development, information sharing, and professional networking.

One of the highlights for the SOI Asia delegation was seeing APIE alumni continuing their learning journeys through opportunities beyond the program.

Aashish Karki, Tribhuvan University alumi in Nepal, and Muhammad Furqan Riansyah Putra from Institut Teknologi Bandung in Indonesia were selected for the 2026 APNIC Fellowship and participated in APNIC 62. Their experiences build on their previous involvement in APIE as learners, Camp participants, and teaching assistants, while opening new pathways into professional practice, research, Internet governance, and wider community participation.

Their stories are featured in the latest APIE article, Taking the Next Step: APIE Alumni Join the APNIC Fellowship.
