Collaboration ITB-Keio University

THE COLLABORATION

The Institut Teknologi Bandung has collaborated with Keio University mainly through the research and education community SOI (School on Internet) Asia since 1996 with AI3 (Asian Internet Interconnection Initiatives) Project.

SOI Asia is an inter-university research network across Southeast Asia and Japan established in 2001. Led by Keio University (Japan), the community currently comprises 29 partner institutions, including universities, research institutes, international organizations, and content providers, across 13 economies.

SOI Asia has been implementing human resource development programs in Asia in various fields, including information technology, security, marine technologies, environmental issues, cultural understandings, disaster management, and entrepreneurship. Those programs involve faculty, researchers, and undergraduate and graduate students, creating an environment with cultural, professional, and educational diversity backgrounds.

Below are some of the recent initiatives led by this community.

APIE Program

Building essential Internet engineering skills and knowledge to improve cyberspace for society

The APIE (Asia Pacific Internet Engineering) program helps university students and young people in the Asia Pacific region looking to improve their employability potential and build the network engineering and operation skills needed to meet the global demand for Internet engineers in industry and academia, including research and education networks (REN).

This program consists of self-paced online learning components as well as hands-on and community-building opportunities in face-to-face projects. ITB students have been very actively participating in all phases of this course, and the institution also organized and hosted the APIE Camp in August 2023.

For more information about the APIE programs and all related activities, visit the APIE website.

EBA Project

Data collection – Data analysis – Storytelling

The EBA (Evidence-Based Approach) project aims to foster a collaborative community among universities across the Asia Pacific region to design an evidence-based, resilient future society. Currently, the EBA Project is working on creating an educational curriculum to foster leaders of tomorrow who can identify and tackle issues based on evidence and analysis in collaboration with universities in the Asia Pacific Region.

EBA will conduct a fieldwork program in East Kalimantan, hosted by ITB, in July 2024. Twelve participants from 8 universities will join the program. We have a series of online common courses leading up to this fieldwork, including one by Prof. Ridwan Sutriadi of ITB on May 21, 2024.

EBA opens fieldwork programs several times a year. For more details, check the EBA website.

Inxignia

Inxignia is a platform that supports learning mobility and validates learning opportunities. It was designed to allow learners to collect, manage, and share their education achievements as digital badges. The platform authenticates the badges issued with micro-credentials to ensure their authenticity, which they can then use in an e-portfolio to show their competencies to society.

With Inxignia, SOI Asia aims to create a cohesive learning journey for students participating in various short-term and online educational programs. It integrates learning experiences from different contexts into a coherent, continuous pathway, focusing on building a sense of community among learners.

At the core of Inxignia is a micro-credentialing e-portfolio platform that uses digital badges to document and visualize students’ learning achievements and opportunities. By tracking progress, the platform enables learners to have a clear overview of acquired skills and experiences, encouraging ongoing reflection and assisting in more effective planning for future learning endeavors.

We are testing a version of Inxignia for issuing microcredential badges with ITB and aim to start a trial deployment there in 2024.
