Badge Description

The APIE Camp is a 5-day, onsite program that delivers a project-based, intensive curriculum focused on network design and deployment. The camp includes hands-on training in configuring switches and routers, virtualization, network security, DNS, IoT, and cloud integration. Learners build both foundational and advanced skills through practical labs and collaborative projects, culminating in a final presentation and interaction with industry professionals.

This program offers learners the opportunity to apply skills and knowledge acquired from the APIE Core Course: Understanding the Internet, Operating the Internet, and the APIE e-Workshop components. Before participating in the camp, participants are required to complete the self-study assignment.

Throughout the program, learners are teamed up with a few members from diverse universities, countries, and backgrounds to complete the mission through collaboration. After the 5-day camp, the team continues to work toward the final presentation which requires them to demonstrate their ability to communicate using a common language of network operations by explaining their network design and its deployment while engaging in technical discussions with other participants and professionals.

Study Requirement: 50 hours, including pre- and post-camp activities

Topics Covered in This Course

Day 1: Network Deployment
- Network cabling and device interconnections
- Network topologies
- Configuration of IP addressing, VLANs, WLAN, NAT, and OSPF routing
Day 2: Network Virtualization and Network Security
- Linux operating system fundamentals
- Concepts of hypervisor technology and virtualization
- Deployment of virtual machines and virtual networks
- Principles of securing network infrastructure
- Best practices for configuring and hardening publicly exposed routers and network devices
- Tools and techniques for continuous network monitoring and protection
- Tools and techniques to identify and mitigate common network security threats
Day 3: Domain Name System (DNS)
- DNS architecture and functionality
- Configuration of DNS servers and zones
- Troubleshooting of DNS issues
- Integration of DNS with network infrastructure
Day 4: IoT and Cloud Computing
- IoT architecture and components
- Cloud computing fundamentals
- Deployment of IoT devices and sensors
- Integration of IoT with cloud services
Day 5: Industry Visit and Progress Review
- Real-world applications of learned technologies
- Industry site visit and networking with professionals
- Reflection on learning outcomes and future directions
- Presentation of progress of final group projects

Prerequisite

Participants should complete the APIE Core Course, which consists of the following programs, before applying to the APIE Camp.

This badge was awarded to the learners who completed the following criteria:

100% completion of the day-by-day missions during the 5-day onsite program
Successful final team presentation delivered to the APIE community during a designated event held after the 5-day onsite program
