Designing Strategies for Resilience with Nature and People at the EBA KRI Thailand Fieldwork in Kanchanaburi

From June 11 to June 18, 2026, 17 participants from Bangladesh (BUET), Indonesia (USK, UNHAS, UNSRAT), Japan (Keio), Malaysia (UM, USM), Thailand (Chula), the Philippines (UPD), Vietnam (HUST), and Myanmar (UCSY, UCSM) came together in Kanchanaburi, Thailand, for the KRI Thailand Fieldwork, hosted by Chulalongkorn University.

As part of SOI Asia’s efforts to support collaborative and practice-based learning across the region, this EBA fieldwork program explored how scientific evidence and local knowledge can be combined to design strategies that strengthen the resilience of communities living alongside major natural and engineered infrastructure.

During the program, participants visited key locations in the Kanchanaburi region, including Mahidol University Kanchanaburi Campus, Erawan National Park, and Srinagarind Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant. These sites helped ground their understanding of how communities, ecosystems, and infrastructure interact in real-world contexts.

Using the data and lessons collected in the field, each group developed an evidence story integrating quantitative and qualitative data. They will share strategies and policy recommendations for different stakeholders, including government, research and education, and the general public at the online final presentation: September 15h, 2026, 18:15 – 19:45 (UTC+9).
