From 5–9 May 2026, the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) hosted an APIE Local Camp, bringing together learners interested in networking, cybersecurity, IoT, and Internet technologies. Beyond the technical learning, the camp reflects an important milestone for the APIE (Asia Pacific Internet Engineering) program: partner institutions increasingly taking ownership of learning opportunities and adapting them to local contexts.

Organized locally by BUET with strong involvement from APIE alumni, the camp saw former participants return as teaching assistants and organizers, bringing their experience back to support learners at their home institution. As Prof. Dr. Hossen Asiful Mustafa (IICT, BUET) noted, “a lot of credit goes to our TA team, graduates of APIE Camp,” highlighting the important role alumni played in making the camp possible.

The camp was supported by SOI Asia through equipment, curriculum resources, and guest lectures from Dr. Noriatsu Kudo (SOI Asia/APIE Lead) and Awal Haolader (APNIC), while implementation and coordination were led locally by BUET faculty members and APIE alumni.

BUET joins a growing number of partner institutions in Indonesia and Malaysia that have organized APIE Local Camps, highlighting the potential scalability of a model where partners and alumni communities play an increasingly active role in expanding Internet engineering education.
