
APIE Local Camp
The APIE Local Camp is an onsite program that delivers a project-based, intensive curriculum focused on network design and deployment. It is delivered by an SOI Asia Partner university and is aligned with the educational model and hands-on learning approach of the APIE Camp.
This program gives learners the opportunity to develop practical skills in the Internet infrastructure, network design and deployment, server and service operations, and related technologies through intensive hands-on and project-based group work. However, unlike the regular APIE Camp, APIE Local Camp does not require prior completion of the APIE Core Course components — Understanding the Internet, Operating the Internet, and the APIE e-Workshop. It is also conducted primarily as a local activity hosted by a partner university, and therefore may not include international participants, cross-country teams, or a post-camp online final presentation.
Even though each APIE Local Camp follows the common objective of providing practical, project-based learning in Internet engineering, the detailed curriculum, timetable, total learning hours, technical focus, and assessment activities may vary depending on the host university and the local implementation. Information on each implemented APIE Local Camp, including its overview and timetable, is listed below.
Study Requirement: 50 hours, including pre- and post-camp activities

- Day 1: Network Deployment and Virtualization
- Overview of internet infrastructure and key components
- Fundamentals of routing and subnetting
- Basics of Linux CLI and remote access techniques
- Introduction to enterprise server concepts, including iDRAC, Proxmox, and virtualization models
- Hands-on lab: Accessing Proxmox and creating an Ubuntu virtual machine
- Day 2: Domain Name System (DNS)
- Overview of DNS concepts and functionality
- Installation and configuration of a recursive resolver using BIND9
- Setup of primary authoritative DNS with key records (SOA, NS, A, AAAA, MX, TXT)
- Configuration of secondary DNS and zone transfer (AXFR)
- Implementation and testing of IPv4 and IPv6 reverse DNS zones
- Introduction to DNS security principles
- Day 3: IoT & Cloud Integration
- Overview of IoT systems and embedded platforms
- Hands-on setup of development board, integration of DHT11 sensor, and Wi-Fi connectivity
- Introduction to AWS EC2 with demonstration
- Installation and configuration of Mosquitto broker and clients on EC2
- Basic MQTT publish/subscribe communication testing
- Publishing sensor data from AIoT S3 to EC2 via MQTT and verification at the broker
- Day 4: VPN & Network Security
- Overview of VPN concepts and use cases
- Installation and basic configuration of an OpenVPN server
- Client setup and VPN connectivity testing
- Introduction to firewall concepts and policy management
- Hands-on implementation of firewall allow/block rules
- Overview of IDS/IPS and packet analysis techniques
- Traffic capture and inspection (VPN and general), with discussion on layered security approaches
